Reading Jan Mark’s excellent last novel, Turbulence, recently, I was touched to discover that The TES got a mention in the final paragraph.
Don’t worry, it’s not a novel about schools or teachers in the Jilly Cooper mould (for more on those, see our Get Published clinic at www.tes.co.ukFridayGet+published).
Turbulence hasn’t got much in common with Wicked! except a sharp eye for adults’ egos and delusions. It’s narrated by Clay, one of the most acutely observant, witty and real teenage fictional heroines I’ve come across.
Clay’s acid-tongued reformed-hippy grandma is a deputy head, but Clay’s shown no sign of following her into teaching: she’s got a paper round. I promise I haven’t spoiled it for you: read it (Hodder Children’s Books).
