SKILLS in multiplication wouldn’t go amiss in applicants for the job of Cambridge’s professor of education. The search has begun for a successor to David Hargreaves, who has departed for the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority.
Cambridge is looking to develop its research profile, which might mean someone such as John Gray, from the uniersity’s Homerton College, who may fancy a rise in status.
The new incumbent can’t look forward to inheriting Hargreaves’ office. It has already been taken by John MacBeath, recently installed as professor of education leadership. After decades of research that took him away from his Strathclyde base, he has finally moved south.
