THE Open University study also revealed wide differences in how staff responsible for literacy were paid.
Literacy co-ordinators in almost half the schools
surveyed (46 per cent) were receiving a responsibility allowance.
The majority of these eachers had been awarded an additional point on the salary scale while a small minority (6 per cent) had two extra points.
Only 40 per cent of schools granted the
co-ordinator non-contact time. Usually this was more than one hour a week.
