SPAM, steamed pudding and lumpy custard were off the menu as the Queen tucked into lunch at a north London school this week.
Instead, Her Majesty was offered smoked chicken salad with mustard and honey dressing, Cajun blackened salmon with spinach, new potatoes and chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream.
The school gym at Duncombe primary school, Holloway, had been tansformed into a cafe royal with the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh seated on gold-coloured chairs.
The occasion was the recruitment of the one millionth Community Service Volunteer. Teressa Cornish, 19, from Plymouth, is a volunteer at Greenwich University, London, where she is supporting a disabled student. She was presented with a certificate by the Queen.
