John Dunford, general secretary of the Secondary Heads Association, doesn’t support a substantial pay rise for classroom teachers who do the “work” in schools taming the lions. How dare he suggest pound;150,000 for heads in difficult schools? Heads are very well paid - it’s the artisans at the whiteboard who deserve more money. Ruth Kelly is right - heads are often out of touch with the reality of the day-to-day issues in education.
