The proportion of schools open in England rose to 80 per cent last week, new Department for Education figures suggest.

And the attendance rate amongst pupils in these partially-opened schools has increased to around 2.1 per cent of pupils who normally attend.

The figures were compiled on 30 April when there were a total of 104,000 teaching staff and 74,000 non-teaching staff in educational settings, compared with 98,000 teachers in attendance the week before.

The most recent data suggests that around 191,000 children attended an educational setting on 30 April. This represents a slight increase on 23 April, when around 175,000 pupils - 1.8 per cent - were in attendance.

DfE figures also show that the number of children attending an educational setting who are classed as vulnerable was higher, with 58,000 vulnerable children in attendance on Thursday 30 April, up from 50,000 the Thursday before.

Around 79 per cent of educational settings were open the week before.
