Topics will range from the likely impact of a Scottish parliament, which will be addressed by Ronnie Smith, general secretary of the Educational Institute of Scotland, to school boards, devolved management and the role of educational research.
The conference, on August 30, is sponsored by The TES Scotland and will take place in the Council Chamber, Parliament Square, Edinburgh. It will include a session in which the four main political parties will set out their electoral stall.
Among the speakers are Lindsay Paterson of Moray House Institute, Elizabeth Reid, Edinburgh’s director of education, Judith Gillespie, convener of the Scottish Parent Teacher Council, and Brian Morris, president of the Scottish Educational Research Association.
David Miller, who chairs the Scottish Examination Board and the Scottish Vocational Education Council, will address a key theme of the Higher Still reforms: bridging the academic-vocational divide.
