A lecture on the science behind Spiderman’s “spider sense” sparked a debate on genetic issues by schoolchildren from across the country.
Eighty pupils attended the lecture at the Royal Society, which marked the 50th anniversary of the discovery of the structure of DNA. Dr Harry Witchel, of Bristol university, used the story of Spiderman, who developed superpowers after being attacked by a genetically modified spider, as a starting point for a discussion of genetic engineering.
