SCHOOLS will spend more on Internet access than telephone calls within a matter of months, a new survey reveals, writes Chris Johnston.
They spent more than pound;21 million on access costs this year, according to the British Educational Suppliers Association. Net connections cost an average of pound;740 per school and phone calls pound;1,135, but the former figure will rise once all schools are conncted.
The survey of 2,500 schools suggests 98.6 per cent of secondaries, 88 per cent of primaries and 89 per cent of special schools are hooked up, with the rest to do so by April.
However, the report reveals that only 47 per cent of teachers feel they are competent users of computers in class. The Government has claimed around two-thirds feel confident with technology.
