David Henderson reports from the national conference on the reform programme for schools
* Nearly 70 per cent of the mixed audience disagreed or strongly disagreed with the statement that league tables make schools more ambitious. Some 28 per cent believe they do.
* A clear majority believe greater parent involvement will lead to better schooling and results, although more than 21 per cent thinks it will not.
More than 40 per cent believe the Parental Involvement Bill will make no difference to the relationship between schools and the wider community or make it worse. Only 20 per cent agree that the bill gets it right in supporting parents’ needs.
