In a particularly strange development, it turns out that the General Teaching Council for England wants to be your cardboard box.
Keith Bartley, the chief executive, explained his aspiration to a group of young teachers.
“Early years teachers know a lot about cardboard boxes and how useful they are,” he said. “Small children love to climb inside a big cardboard box and explore the world from there ... You build confidence from a safe, confined space and then move out into the world.”
There is a professional description for this phenomenon: it is a “containment schema”.
Bravely, Mr Bartley continued: “We at the GTC would like to be your cardboard box - or your containment schema.”
We really can’t take this any further. Indeed, we are almost lost for words. We can only urge you to take it up with Mr Bartley.
