Parents whose children truant are being issued with an increasing number of fines, according to government figures. Almost 7,000 penalty notices were issued to parents in England between April and the end of August this year, up from under 4,900 during roughly the same period last year. Figures released earlier this year suggested that truancy had risen in spite of the pound;100 fines.
