Fingers crossed for the UK Kids’ Lit Quiz team from Bancroft’s school in South Woodford, Essex, who are currently in Auckland, New Zealand enjoying the Storylines literary festival and waiting to take part in the world final on Sunday. Bancroft’s was one of 211 secondary schools that entered the 2005 UK quiz last autumn. The school won the UK TEStrophy at its third attempt thanks to Lewis Saville and Sam Agbamu (both Year 8) plus Linett Kaymer and Daniel Morgan-Thomas (both Year 7). I hope English teacher and team coach Kevin Gallagher has taken along plenty of cash for excess baggage: when Bancroft’s went to Newcastle for the UK final last December, Daniel took 10 books to read on the train. We’ll tell you how they got on next week.
