They should be “Not too fun, but not too serious”, make history “seem like it happened yesterday” and resemble the lovely Miss Honey from Roald Dahl’s Matilda. Young people don’t ask for much from their teachers these days.
And for any members of staff looking for ways to improve their performance, this video from the Girls’ Day School Trust (GDST) network of independent schools also features a complete recipe for a perfect teacher, including: “One teaspoon of listening oil”, “10 integrity sweets” and “three cups of confidence mouthwash”. Lovely. And don’t forget to add at least “One big cup of responsible sauce”.
The clip was produced by the GDST after it carried out a survey of nearly 12,000 pupils asking them what made a great teacher. The poll reveals how pupils’ attitudes change over the years, from wanting to be nurtured and loved at a younger age to wanting a well-organised teachers by the time they approach their GCSEs.
