Like its parent association, SHA Cymru is changing its name. On January 1, it will turn into the Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL) Cymru. But we feel sure that everyone will prefer the Welsh version: Cymdeithas Arweinwyr Ysgolion a Cholegau - which makes CAYAC.
At last week’s annual meeting in Llandrindod Wells, headteachers were being unusually restrained about the new name. The Diary’s spy heard not a single remark about heads paddling their own canoes. But when the name change was mentioned at the conference dinner, one head from the south Wales valleys was heard to mutter: “As long as we’re not known as anoraks.”
