Having just finished Captain Scott by Ranulph Fiennes I am left exhausted by Scott’s courage, determination, planning, audacity and leadership. Fiennes attacks the debunkers who, particularly in the 1970s, set out to tarnish Scott’s image. He is well placed to do so, having followed in Scott’s footsteps in the Antarctic and experienced the physical and mental hardships of such a venture.
