If you listen to some children, their teachers live at school. They don’t have their own home, their own partners, children or lives. Nope: they live, sleep, and breathe teaching. 

As they get older, they realise (hopefully) that that’s not true. Beyond the school gates, there is a multitude of teachers leading exhilarating and diverse lives. 

Whether you were once a wrestler, were offered a job as a spy or even perform regularly on a West End stage, shining a light on all of the weird and wonderful things that teachers do outside of school isn’t just inspiring for pupils to know about - it’s pretty darn impressive in its own right.

This week, Haili Hughes, an English teacher from Manchester, asked her Twitter followers: “What hidden un-teacherish talents do you have?”

The replies came flooding in and were full of unexpected adventures. As always, filtering out the best was a tough call, but here are a few of our favourites:
