As a newly qualified teacher in Buckinghamshire, why am I earning less than some other NQTs in the county, whom I meet at induction events?
There are four different pay scales across England and Wales: one national and three covering London and the areas adjacent to the capital. Teachers employed by schools that fall within the South Bucks and Chiltern districts are within the area covered by the London fringe area and are paid on this salary scale, while others are paid on the national scale. This may account for the difference. Some new teachers also may receive increments for experience acquired outside the profession, and some may be fast-track teachers who have their own salary scale: they might also be paid extra for working with special needs children.
