THE leading rugby league club, Warrington Wolves, has launched the game’s first degree course, writes Esther Leach.

“We are not looking for stars on the pitch,” said Peter Deakin, the club’s chief executive.

“We are looking for future sports and leisure administrators who will help develop and promote the game.”

There are 20 places available at Warrington ollegiate Institute for the course in September.

Course leader Barbara Bell, who admits she’s never played, says: “The programme aims to provide students with a sound, multi-disciplinary, academic background for the sport.”

Students can also study the sport’s cultural and social significance, the development of the modern game and its business needs.
