I was fascinated to read that Samantha Cooper is using Scrabble as a cross-curricular tool to raise standards in the primary classroom (TES, February 25).
At Westbury Park, we use a thinking-skills approach to our curriculum and we have found that Scrabble is a fantastic tool for stimulating children’s learning.
We often use it at the beginning or end of a topic to assess current understanding - children play against each other, using words that relate to the topic in question.
This “playing” with the curriculum has proved popular in homework tasks, where children and parents can all enjoy playing together.
