Tomorrow - 5 October - will mark World Teachers’ Day, as the profession continues to face momentous challenges across the globe during the coronavirus crisis.

This year’s theme for the annual event held by Unesco will be “Teachers: Leading in crisis, reimagining the future”. The Unesco website states that the pandemic “has significantly added to the challenges faced by already over-extended education systems throughout the world”.

“The issue of teacher leadership in relation to crisis responses is not just timely, but critical in terms of the contributions teachers have made to provide remote learning, support vulnerable populations, re-open schools, and ensure that learning gaps have been mitigated,” it adds.

Speakers at the virtual event will include Andreas Schleicher, director of education and skills at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, and Stefania Giannini, assistant director-general for education at Unesco.
