This week: Ofsted’s curriculum plans

If someone says... “For God’s sake, why is Ofsted in the news again?”

You say... “It’s all to do with its new plans to refocus inspection on curriculum. Ofsted fears schools are narrowing the curriculum and focusing too much on teaching to the test.”

If someone says... “Yes, we already know all about that. What’s new?”

You say... “On Wednesday, Ofsted launched a consultation on its plans, which will be open for 12 weeks. Ofsted’s Luke Tryl says there will be ‘lots of regional events, slides, myth-busting and more’.”

If someone says... “What’s the general feeling in the profession?”

You say... “Like whenever Ofsted introduces anything new, there’s suspicion and fear - but many teachers out there are over the moon about the general change of direction. Concerns have been raised about the idea that a school could get just 150 minutes’ notice before an inspector arrives.”

If someone says... “When will the changes come in?”

You say...“This September.”
