Ofsted’s head of research has quit his job at the watchdog, Tes understands.

Daniel Muijs, who has a background in education research, worked at the inspectorate for more than three years.

Ofsted said Professor Muijs was returning to academia after “a very successful few years” at the organisation.

Professor Muijs was formerly a professor of education at the University of Southampton, and has also held academic roles at the University of Manchester, the University of Newcastle, and Warwick Institute of Education.

A spokesperson for Ofsted said: “Daniel has decided to go back to academia after a very successful few years at Ofsted. We wish him all the best for the future.”

They added that they would be advertising for his replacement “shortly”.

Professor Muijs will now take a new role as dean for the School of Education and Society at the Academica University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands.

He tweeted this afternoon: “Following three enjoyable years at Ofsted, I am moving to a new challenge as dean of the School of Education and Society at @AcademicaUoAS.

“I know my excellent colleagues at @Ofstednews will continue to produce great work, and I look forward to reading the exciting reports coming out in the coming year.

“I meanwhile look forward to my new role at Academica University of Applied Sciences, where we will be leading on developing evidence-based practice and research @AcademicaUoAS.”
