A supplier to create a curriculum for a new multi-academy trust CEO development programme will be chosen by the spring - and will begin delivery at the start of next academic year.
The Department for Education’s “MAT CEO Development Offer” is being designed by an expert advisory group, which features trust CEOs, sector leaders and trustee chairs.
In a notice on the government’s contract finder service this week, the DfE said it was seeking a supplier to turn this into a “realisable programme for delivery”, and would be holding online events to summarise the requirements later this month.
It said procurement to find a provider would start in the new year, with a contract awarded by the end of April 2023.
And it added that the first cohort should begin their teaching in September 2023, with a full programme schedule already in place.
Developing the academy trust leaders of the future
In the Schools White Paper earlier this year, the DfE announced its ambition that by 2030 all schools will be in “strong” MATs or have plans to join or form one.
It has said that it anticipates the growing number of academies will require “strong leadership”, and the creation of a “pipeline of new leaders”.
The DfE launched the advisory group earlier this academic year aimed at setting out the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to perform the role of CEO for large MATs.
The group was also tasked with determining the scheme’s target audience, length and design, and the delivery model required to meet the wider needs of the education sector.
