The Department for Education has appointed a new interim regional director for the South West.

Lucy Livings, currently deputy director of the South West’s regions group, is set to start the new role at the end of this month.

Her predecessor, Hannah Woodhouse, announced she was stepping down from the post at the end of last year.

Ms Woodhouse, who held the role for seven years, will become executive director for children and education at Bristol City Council from next month.

Writing on X, formerly known as Twitter, last year, Ms Woodhouse said that she had “loved working across this beautiful region...to strengthen the system that serves all children and the most disadvantaged as a priority”.

Ms Livings (pictured) joined the civil service in 2003 and has worked as a deputy director at the DfE since 2017.

She previously worked in the Department for International Development and in the private office of three different permanent secretaries.

A DfE spokesperson said: “I can confirm Lucy Livings will be taking over as the new interim regional director in the South West on 29 January.”

Posting on social media today, Ms Livings said that she was “excited to be stepping into the interim regional director role”.
