Global IB Middle Years Programme results released

More than 95,000 students following the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) have received their results.

A total of 1,049 schools in 114 countries submitted students’ mandatory personal projects this year, the IB said.

The results also show that 270 schools in 72 countries participated in the optional MYP eAssessment, with a 10.78 per cent increase in registrations.

This year, students who registered for the full MYP certificate - including the personal project and eAssessments - received an average score of 37.56 points (out of 56), a slight fall from 37.72 in 2022.

But the 384 students who followed the programme in the UK got an average of 41.33 points in total.

The MYP average grade in the UK was 4.96, while the UK pass rate was 87.62.

Just 11 schools in the UK have pupils on the programme.

What is the Middle Years Programme?

The MYP is a five-year programme for students aged 11 to 16, which prepares students for the IB Diploma Programme (DP) and IB Career-related Programme (CP).

The programme has eight subjects: language acquisition; language and literature; individuals and societies; sciences; mathematics; arts; physical and health education; and design.

In the final year of the MYP, each student develops a personal project, and students are also given the chance to register for an optional external assessment, giving them the opportunity to create an ePortfolio of coursework and participate in on-screen assessments.

This optional assessment gives students the opportunity to earn a formal certificate.

The maximum total score for the IB MYP certificate is 56, with a grade from one to seven assigned to each required eAssessment.

Students must achieve a total of at least 28 points, with a grade of three or higher, in each eAssessment component to be eligible to receive the IB MYP certificate.

IB director-general congratulates students

Olli-Pekka Heinonen, director-general at the IB, said: “I would like to congratulate all our MYP students for their tremendous and continued efforts over the year and during the examination period.”

He also expressed his appreciation for the “dedication and perseverance exhibited by our global community of educators, teachers and IB World Schools” in supporting students in their personal projects, ePortfolio subjects and in administering on-screen exams.

What is the IB Diploma Programme?

Launched in 1975, the IB DP is equivalent to UK A levels and widely recognised by university admissions teams.

The Diploma programme encourages a broad range of study with students choosing a subject to pursue at a higher (HL) and standard level (SL).

In the IB DP this year, UK students also beat the global average.
