Schools should close on Monday 19 September for the Queen’s funeral, the government has confirmed.
Earlier today, King Charles III approved an order for the day of the funeral to be a bank holiday, and the date for the funeral was revealed this evening.
The government also made clear that “there is no statutory entitlement to time off for bank holidays” but that it expects “employers to respond sensitively to requests from workers who wish to take the day of the funeral off work”.
It was announced on Thursday that schools should remain open for the rest of the mourning period, and that Ofsted would continue to inspect schools, though it would not publish reports.
