Strike action over pay has been backed by members of Scottish primary school leaders’ body the AHDS.
Some 86 per cent of those who voted were in favour of strike action, with 14 per cent against.
Strike ballot results are also expected this week from the EIS, Scotland’s largest teaching union, and School Leaders Scotland, whose members are drawn from the secondary school sector.
The AHDS ballot saw members asked this question: “Are you prepared to take part in industrial action consisting of strike action in pursuit of the 2022-23 teachers’ pay claim?”
Some 63 per cent of members responded, with 85.8 per cent of them voting “yes” and 14.2 per cent voting “no”.
The AHDS, which has 2,450 members, said that 54 per cent of those eligible to vote had voted “yes”.
It stressed that a small number of members were not eligible to vote or strike, such as some who are not currently working as school leaders and others whose employers are not part of the Scottish Negotiating Committee for Teachers bargaining process.
The AHDS strike ballot closed yesterday, as did that of the EIS. The EIS result is likely to be announced tomorrow.
School Leaders Scotland, which represents the secondary sector, closes its ballot today and is expected to announce the result tomorrow.
The Scottish Secondary Teachers’ Association is also conducting a ballot on strike action, which closes on Wednesday 16 November.
The NASUWT teaching union started its ballot in Scotland on 26 October. It closes on 21 November.
