As teachers across Scotland walked out on their first national pay strike in almost 40 years, Tes Scotland reporter Emma Seith was in Edinburgh to speak to teachers at the rally outside the Scottish Parliament.
With two more EIS union strike days already pencilled in for January - and other unions due to strike over pay in December - the union’s general secretary, Andrea Bradley, indicated that two further strike dates were likely to be announced tomorrow.
Ms Bradley said this afternoon: “EIS members across Scotland have responded magnificently today, turning out in their thousands on picket lines and at pay campaign demos across the country.”
The Scottish Secondary Teachers’ Association also confirmed today that it had rejected the latest pay offer.
Education secretary Shirley-Anne Somerville has said the 10 per cent pay claim being sought by teaching unions is “unaffordable” without cuts elsewhere.
