A merger between a college and university has been approved by the skills minister, just weeks after the first FE/HE link-up in six years came into force.
Lambeth College, in South London, is set to become part of London South Bank University (LSBU) by next January.
The merger follows the first FE/HE link-up in six years when Bolton College formally dissolved to become part of the University of Bolton, while retaining its own name, board and principal.
In a joint statement, Monica Box, Lambeth College chief executive, and Fiona Morey, principal designate, said: “This is great news for our students and staff as it will help us build upon our position as the ‘careers college’ of choice for the local community.”
‘Clear routes from college to university’
Professor David Phoenix, LSBU vice-chancellor, said: “LSBU’s mission is to transform lives, businesses and communities through the power of education. By partnering with Lambeth College, we will be able to create clear routes from college, to university and into successful careers.”
Subject to parliamentary approval and contract agreement, Lambeth College will officially become part of the LSBU group by January 2019.
