Podcast July 17

Join the Tes news team as we discuss the results of our latest survey that half of school staff have no trust “at all” in the Department for Education’s decision-making when it comes to Covid-19, and also that 85 per cent feel the government has not done enough to help them during the pandemic.

We also talk about recommendations from advisors that the £350m National Tutoring Programme (to help disadvantaged pupils catch-up after lockdown) should mostly take place on-line - and the potential problems with that.

And we discuss findings of the NAHT heads’ union that more than 4 in 5 headteachers are having problems sleeping due to the pressures of the job - and that that problems caused by Covid-19 could “exacerbate the leadership drought”.
