“There was a young man from Peru
Whose limericks stopped at line two.”

Poems can make you laugh, cry, reflect and feel inspired. There is no doubt that poetry is powerful. And isn’t it special when that power is used for good?

Last year, Poetry Together 2019 celebrated the joy of poetry by bringing children into care homes. Both young and old learned poems by heart and shared their rhymes at tea party celebrations.

For obvious reasons, that isn’t possible this year, but that hasn’t stopped author and former MP Gyles Brandreth from finding a way to ensure poetry is still bringing joy and laughter into classrooms and living rooms.

Tes caught up with Gyles to find out how, this year, he is asking schools to get their students learning poems and recording them to share with care home residents, so that we can all enjoy Poetry Together.
