Describing the inspiration for the song, headteacher Dave McPartlin told Tes: “We held an assembly, and we always want to encourage children to have high aspirations.
“One child said: I’d love to be a popstar and get to number one. And we went back to the staffroom and we talked about it and we said, do you know what? Why don’t we give this a go? Why don’t we write a song for Christmas and see what happens? If nothing else, the kids will have the experience.”
The winner of the chart race will be announced on Friday 21 December, with Flakefleet competing against current number one Ariana Grande, Ava Max and X Factor winner Dalton Harris.
