Schools don’t need to cancel sports day due to Covid, the Department for Education has said.
The DfE issued the clarification saying that it had become aware of some schools cancelling sports days citing Covid guidance.

However, as long as they are conducted in line with the guidance around the cleaning of sports equipment and bubble group mixing, and thoroughly risk-assessed, outdoors events such as sports days can go ahead, the DfE explained.
Parents can attend, too. According to a DfE blog, spectators can gather in separate groups of up to 30 and they need to observe social distancing.
Covid: No need to cancel school sports days
The issue of sports days being cancelled due to Covid has taken the spotlight over the past couple of days as people have been comparing their cancellation to the news that the government is allowing 60,000 fans to attend Euro 2020 games at Wembley Stadium.
Parents and the wider public have taken to Twitter to vent their frustration.
Many of the tweets, complaining that parents were not allowed to attend sports days, signal some confusion around the current rules.
