This lesson teaches students about the wide range of plant and animal adaptations that exist within rainforests. A wide range of examples are covered with specific detailed information on each one. There is a heavy emphasis on peer and self assessment throughout the lesson. The lesson can be split into two halves, with the first half focusing on plant adaptations and the second half focusing on animal adaptations. I used this with a wide range of abilities in year 8.

This was used in an observation lesson with a year ten environmental science class. The lesson includes differentiation for higher and foundation abilities, independent learning, collaborative working, progress checks, modelled answers and peer assessment. This lesson teaches students about how tourism can be managed within a tourist destination. There is a heavy emphasis on the Lake District, students will leave with a detailed understanding of how key factors are managed such as footpath erosion, traffic, environmental damage and issues on Lake Windermere. I used this with a mixed ability year 10 GCSE class studying AQA A Geography (two lessons). The resources are very detailed with a heavy emphasis on independent learning in sections for in depth questioning. This took me two lessons to cover, however it can be cut down to one lesson.

A detailed lesson that teaches students about why people migrate from Mexico to USA. I used this lesson for an observation with a high ability year 8 class (the lesson was given an outstanding). All of the resources are very detailed, they include peer assessment, differentiation, frequent stretch and challenge, a significant emphasis on independent learning and a clear demonstration of progress through mini plenaries. This lesson teaches students about the location or China and introduces students to various features of China focusing on major settlements, rainfall, GDP per capita, population density, and ecosystems. This is a very independent lesson, it involves students investigating a range of maps to create their own detailed map incorporating the information they find. I used this lesson with a mid to high ability year 9 class.

This lesson is designed to teach students the definitions of biomes and ecosystems and to be able to locate these throughout the world. I used this lesson with a mid to high ability year 8 class. The lesson contains detailed resources which focuses on some key biomes and their key features. Each biome has a detailed information sheet with statistics on the climate, location, physical and human features. There is an emphasis on independent learning and group work.

This lesson is designed to introduce students to a lot of new key terms that are consistently used in Geography by getting them to describe their local area. It focuses on land use, physical and human features, opinions on various areas, transport features etc. Worked well with my year 7 class (levels 2 to 5). The lesson is focused on Newcastle, therefore you will have to change some small details to fit where you are located.

The lesson is clear and straightforward, it has a good group work activity lesson and several very informative video clips. I have included the lesson plan to help.

A lesson designed to teach students about the various tourist activities in the Arctic and the potential positive or negative impacts this may have on the area. I used this lesson with a low mixed ability year 7 class. The lesson contains differentiated resources and a structured homework task (to design a postcard for the Arctic).

There are also paired activities, peer assessment opportunities and challenge tasks for stretch and challenge. This is a very detailed lesson that could arguably be stretch over more than just one hour. I have used this with a high ability year 9 class on the AQA A GCSE Geography syllabus.

This lesson is designed to teach students about why China's overpopulation is a problem for the country. A wide variety of issues are discussed, with specific focus on over consumption of coal leading to pollution, deforestation and desertification. I used this lesson with a high ability year 9 class, it is also very applicable to a GCSE class or adaptable to a lower ability key stage 3 class.

A very detailed lesson that is designed to teach studentsabout biodiversity and relationships between species in the Great Barrier Reef. I used this lesson with high ability year 8 students and is suitable for high ability ks3 students or ks4. It can be adapted to suit lower ability ks3. The lesson focuses on food chains, food webs and symbiotic relationships in the Great Barrier Reef. It centers around a series of twenty one animal cards which are very detailed (took two hours to make) and discuss key facts such as diet, habitats and defenses which students use to piece together chains, webs and relationships. The lesson is very independent and it has a heavy emphasis on group work. I have included the lesson plan to help.

This lesson is designed to teach about the many reasons for conserving wildlife e.g. scientific research, application to technology, ethics, recreation etc. This was an observation lesson I used with a year 10 environmental science class, however it can be easily adapted for ks3 and 4 Geography or biology. This lesson teaches students about mass tourism in Benidorm, specifically focusing on: defining mass tourism, identifying how Benidorm has changes to accommodate mass tourism, and investigating the impacts this has had on the area. used this lesson with a high ability year 7 class.

Two lessons that introduce the concept of place as part of the AQA A level specification. Both lessons are heavily based on discussions using the information and key concepts which is discussed in detail in both the powerpoints and the worksheets. Key words, views from key humanist Geographers and concepts are clear and discussed in detail. There are some links to Newcastle as a case study, however this can be easily edited.
