Visual images are more than just what you see. Visual literacy teaches students to deconstruct an image to find the hidden meanings within the image, such as the complexity of content, meaning, emotional responses and critical responses. This poster takes a comic that aims to teach students about the legal issues around driving and then to deconstructs the meanings behind the comic, the messages it contains and the manner in which the meanings are taught. Making responses to visual images are a great way to develop extended literacy responses, in this case, around issues related to legal studies.
An examination of the requirement for there to be an intention to create legal relations in the formation of a contract.
Written for AQA A-Level Law students but suitable for anyone studying law.

A series of lessons including PowerPoints and worksheets to teach legal profession (barristers and solicitors) on the new 2017 OCR A Level Law Spec - Law 01: Section A: The Legal System
A PowerPoint which I think Legal Studies / Civics teachers will find helpful. If you use it, and like it, please give me a positive star rating / review.
A PowerPoint which begins by showing the rule of law pyramid and explains it. Requirements for laws are explained. Some elements of the pyramid are further explained including ‘presumption of innocence.’ Subsequently the 3 levels of government and their responsibilities are explained. As are the three pillars of the rule of law (judicial, legislative & executive). Information is provided about who enforces the law and the court system. There are some graphs of crime trends in Queensland. This is followed by an explanation of ‘statutory interpretation.’ The terms ‘onus of proof’ and ‘standard of proof’ are explained. Information is provided about the difference between criminal and civil cases.
NB: My lessons have been designed for use in Australian classrooms and will often feature examples from Queensland legislation.
A lot of people who study Law at University do so because they want to become practising lawyers, whether as barristers or solicitors, but it is not necessary to read Law at University to become a practising lawyer. Equally, studying Law at University is a legitimate subject for academic study even if you definitely do not want to become a lawyer or think that you may not become a practising lawyer. That is because the study of Law at University is not a vocational subject; it is an academic subject and an intellectual discipline.
