Personal Space Social Story

(0)

Social story about personal space for children who are getting too close to others to talk to them.

The point of a social story is to use a patient and reassuring tone to teach children about social situations in a way that can be easily understood. Social stories can be useful for any child who is struggling to understand a situation or concept or needs help to understand a social skill or social cue, expectations, perspectives, common responses or is troubled about an upcoming event but social stories are particularly useful for children on the autistic spectrum for whom social cues can be challenging and who often suffer anxiety if they do not know what to expect from a situation.

These books should be used over and over to reinforce the point so I would suggest either putting the pages into a display book or laminating and binding them.

Clipart images courtesy of Kari Bolt Clip Art

Financial Capability -Personal Financial Education

(0)
As part of the development of the new National Curriculum for implementation in September 2000, the DfEE published a framework for Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) and Citizenship which repeated the Government’s wish to include financial capability as a topic at all key stages. In early 2000 Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) published further guidance for the delivery of PSHE and Citizenship. An important aspect of this is the teaching of personal finance to develop financial capability for all pupils.

I have used this with Year 9-14 in the special needs school I work at and have just changed the content slightly to meet needs.
There are sessions on diet, sugar content, different types of diet e.g. halal, vegan, and the last lesson looks at mental health. I have also included a tick sheet for assessment if needed.
