Metals & Me has been created to support the teaching of geography for 11-16 year olds. The project supports a number of curriculum and syllabus requirements and can be used to encourage debate and understanding of key issues in Citizenship and Education for Sustainable Development.
<p>KS1 Narrative Unit on Pirates and Mermaids. Year 2 and Year 1 English Curriculum.<br />
This has been adapted to suit year 1 children or year 2 children who are working below the expected standard (SEN or EAL). The unit is designed to help children repeat, pre-teach vocabulary, over teach sentence structure, match words, sort sentences into order and sequence, play vocabulary games, and much more. It should allow children for improved independence by the end of the unit. There are a list of ideas to support sen e.g parental involvement, speaking and listening strategies, imitating games, role play etc.<br />

Geographical enquiry is now firmly established in the geography curriculum, at least on paper. Despite, however, having being given a prominent place in curriculum documents there is still evidence that it is not yet been fully adopted in schools. The main aim of this resource is for students to understand some of the conflicts surrounding land use in the UK – particularly the conflicts between economic incentives, society, and environmental conservation. The resource also provides a practical introduction to the complexities of managing habitats, with a focus on managing heathland.
This field study encourages students to act as environmental scientists to compare two heathlands one of which has been grazed, one of which hasn’t. The pupils will use the data collected to decide which heathland is better in terms of the plant species present and soil chemistry.
