A music resource that has been created for use during Black History Month. The resource has a number of slides that can be printed off and used accordingly.

These include:

  1. A Guess Who starter activity featuring 15 musicians, each with their own fact to accompany them.
  2. A second starter, this time based upon a rhythm for students to work out and perform as a whole class. This can be either as a stand alone task or with a 12 bar blues accompaniment.
  3. A brief history of the role of African music and how it has gone on to influence so many other musical styles over the years.
  4. Two 12 bar blues performance sheets.
  5. A Jazz performance sheet.
  6. A general music performance sheet.
  7. An African drumming inspired performance sheet.
  8. Assessment criteria.

I understand that education establishments will cover Black History Month in many different ways and it is therefore hoped that this resource will accompany those activities. It can be used as a one off lesson in music or as much as a four lesson topic for students to enjoy.

All files are available as PDF, PNG and PPT files.
