Many of these resources have been personally used in either a classroom or one to one teaching environment. Two documents designed to help with planning for the year ahead. The first document is introductory piano booklet designed for early stage piano players but could also be used as ten minute lesson starters, ACE groups, or as class challenges. The booklet consists of two pages of practice logs for the tutor to comment on and for the student to complete during any practice undertaken, four pages of music broken down into a right hand only and left hand only section for each piece, culminating in a both hands ‘recital’ version. At the back of the booklet there is also a certificate to be awarded to the student when they have completed the whole booklet. The curriculum journey document offers a suggested progression path for the secondary school music curriculum starting at year seven and going through to year thirteen. There are two versions given. The first breaks down each year group into individual years, and the second shows how each year group operates alongside each other year group. For key stage four and five actual topics have been replaced by the term Areas of Study only and are labeled AoS1, AoS2, AoS3 and AoS4. This is so the individual can take into account which exam board they will be following at this point and can decide the order in which to teach their Areas of Study. For KS3 topics have been suggested but can be altered should you wish.

Updated for 2023 This resource features music that could be used as part of a Halloween based lesson or topic. The document features an extract of music from Edvard Grieg’s Hall of the Mountain King that has been written for keyboard / piano, guitar and ukelele, both of which include tab. There are two versions of this, the first is a standard notated version that could be used by the more advanced students, and a simpler version that includes which notes to play, that can be used for the less able students. The second resource features the key themes from the films Halloween, The Exorcist and World War Z. All extracts have been written for piano and feature an easy, medium, and advanced version. Enjoy

A music resource that has been created for use during Black History Month. The resource has a number of slides that can be printed off and used accordingly. These include: A Guess Who starter activity featuring 15 musicians, each with their own fact to accompany them. A second starter, this time based upon a rhythm for students to work out and perform as a whole class. This can be either as a stand alone task or with a 12 bar blues accompaniment. A brief history of the role of African music and how it has gone on to influence so many other musical styles over the years. Two 12 bar blues performance sheets. A Jazz performance sheet. A general music performance sheet. An African drumming inspired performance sheet. Assessment criteria. I understand that education establishments will cover Black History Month in many different ways and it is therefore hoped that this resource will accompany those activities. It can be used as a one off lesson in music or as much as a four lesson topic for students to enjoy. All files are available as PDF, PNG and PPT files.

The document features an extract of music from Carole of the Bells & Jingle Bells that has been written for keyboard / piano, guitar and ukelele, both of which include tab. There are two versions of this, the first is a standard notated version that could be used by the more advanced students, and a simpler version that includes which notes to play, that can be used for the less able students. There is also a section that covers certain details surroundings the historical aspects of Christmas that you may wish to use as part of a starter to the lesson or topic.
