School subjects and adjectives - Spanish

(1)
Goes with Mira 1, Module 2 (refers to listening exercises from the textbook, but there's plenty of useful stuff on the slides if you don&'t have access to this). My class are Y9 beginners Spanish, but this would be equally suitable for Y7. Lesson 1 - using cognates to work out school subjects, listening, writing about what subjects you study/don&';t study. Lesson 2 - vocab recap pic reveal, days of the week, reading. Lesson 3 - gender, listening, adjectives, using dictionary, opinion phrases.

GCSE advanced structures for middle ability pupils

(3)
A couple of worksheets made for the very top end of a low ability Year 10 group. These pupils are currently producing C-grade quality work, in a class where most others are E/F/G so the worksheet is designed to extend their range of language whilst being something they can work on independently. One worksheet is on verb structures (avant de / apres avoir) and the other is on pronouns (je le trouve, je l'aime, etc.). The topic area is holidays/tourism/town as that is the current.
Match reasons for jobs in French & English

Match reasons for jobs in French & English

(3)
Disclaimer: adapted from a teacher at my placement school, not entirely my own work. First pupils do card-sort activity - match reasons for jobs in French and English. When they finish, start filling in the grid. As extension or homework - fill in the 3rd column with a job title (in French) that goes with the reason - there is more than one possible answer for this.

TV programmes - cover work

Cover lesson worksheet for a low ability Year 8 class. A series of tasks to work through to build up from learning the vocab to using it in a sentence. Not very exciting, but thought it might save someone a bit of time.

Clothing - school uniform - modal verbs - Expo 2

(2)
Year 8 lesson for pupils following Expo 2 Rouge. Already done modal verbs (invitations and excuses) and clothes. Combine/consolidate in this lesson. 1) discuss uniform in France/watch clip. 2) key vocabulary - things not allowed in school. 3) categorise statements with modal verbs (can, must, can't wear) 4) does the statement apply to England or France? For part 3, statements are on individual slides as I send pupils slides on iPads (pdf version attached for those who have this option). But can easily be adapted.
French perfect tense revision quiz

French perfect tense revision quiz

(2)
Pupils had covered perfect tense during module on hobbies/leisure in the previous term but had had a bit of a break from it. Used quiz to get them thinking about it again and prepare to apply it to the current topic. Could use to test how much they remember, or let them use their exercise books (opportunity for them to evaluate how good their note-taking is and if their books will help them revise).

Reading task - home and leisure

(2)
Reading task aimed at a middle ability Y8 group who have been doing Spanish once per week since September but are in their 2nd year learning French. In the topic of house/home, this was their 2nd lesson on infinitives so I threw this at them as a bit of a challenge.

Spanish vovabulary; food, market, goes with video.

(2)
Vocab sheet to use with this video from VideoEle: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etd0-GwJJ0Y Pupils see how many items they can identify from the video - challenge to find as many as possible, rather than expectation to get them all. Then becomes sheet for recording vocab - go through answers on powerpoint and pupils fill in gaps.

Writing starters for Y8 Holidays topic - new GCSE

(1)
Writing tasks for Year 8 studying the topic of Holidays (Expo 2). Developed in response to requirements of the new GCSE proposals, as the current Y8 will be the first affected. Aim is to get them used to regularly writing stuff without access to their books, word mats or dictionaries, reusing prior knowledge. Focus on conveying information and using correct verbs, rather than developed and fancy work. Mixture of task bullet points for writing tasks, and translation (both directions).
Holidays past tense read and run (vert)

Holidays past tense read and run (vert)

(1)
Read and run activity for bottom set Y8. 4 fairly straightforward texts about holidays in the past tense, with 15 questions for pupils to answer in teams by reading the texts around the room. The last 3 questions require them to answer in French by finding the correct phrase.
Revising 5 tenses for Y9 (topic - healty living)

Revising 5 tenses for Y9 (topic - healty living)

(1)
2 lessons for the end of a healthy living topic with a middle set Y9 group, focusing on understanding of when to use the present, perfect, imperfect, near future and future tenses. Pupils have previously covered these tenses in all subjects, but I am focusing on the je form in these revision lessons to simplify things a bit and increase the chance that they can use the tenses in their upcoming written exam. If you're looking for something more highbrow for top set or for Y10 and 11, I have a series of lessons on conjugation in my resources.
