Los colores - un poema

Los colores - un poema

(3)
Colous poem project for Y7 Spanish - will probably take 3-5 lessons depending on your group. After learning basics of colours, word order and adjective agreements, pupils read a poem and identify nouns and adjectives. They develop dictionary skills to research new vocabulary so they can be creative, producing similes using nouns (eg: blue like the sea) then add in adjectives to enhance their similes (eg: blue like the shimmering sea). After the 2-3 lessons provided on powerpoint they can complete their poems and write up in neat for display.

Social / Political / Cultural - Discussing the Charlie Hebdo attack

(14)
Lesson in response to the shootings in Paris on 07/01/15. 1st slide for triggering discussion. Explain/discuss context for any pupils who are unaware. Provide sources 1-11 to pupils to analyse and discuss. Depending on your group, they might just do a couple each, or might get through all of them. If time at end - discuss and write tweets.

Clothing - school uniform - modal verbs - Expo 2

(2)
Year 8 lesson for pupils following Expo 2 Rouge. Already done modal verbs (invitations and excuses) and clothes. Combine/consolidate in this lesson. 1) discuss uniform in France/watch clip. 2) key vocabulary - things not allowed in school. 3) categorise statements with modal verbs (can, must, can't wear) 4) does the statement apply to England or France? For part 3, statements are on individual slides as I send pupils slides on iPads (pdf version attached for those who have this option). But can easily be adapted.

GCSE advanced structures for middle ability pupils

(3)
A couple of worksheets made for the very top end of a low ability Year 10 group. These pupils are currently producing C-grade quality work, in a class where most others are E/F/G so the worksheet is designed to extend their range of language whilst being something they can work on independently. One worksheet is on verb structures (avant de / apres avoir) and the other is on pronouns (je le trouve, je l'aime, etc.). The topic area is holidays/tourism/town as that is the current.

Correct the errors - lunch - tenses and articles

(0)
A short text to print out and give to pupils to find and correct errors. Most mistakes are tenses and articles but some are simple spelling mistakes. I ended up going round underlining mistakes for the least able pupils during the lesson, so they just had to correct it, so you could do some copies already underlined for your class if needed.

Reading activity - model for writing about sports

(2)
2 different versions of a diary entry about what sports you do on different days, as preparation for a writing assessment. 1 version is for pupils aiming for maximum Level 4 and is all in the present tense. The other includes the perfect tense and the immediate future for pupils working towards Level 5/6. Content (activities/days) is identical so it can all be marked together in class.

Food and drink webquest - buffalo grill

(0)
I know Buffalo Grill isn't exactly an authentic French experience, but the American theming (and lots of cognates) makes using a whole website in French more accessible so pupils can pick out other details from context. A mixture of questions and &'find the French&'; tasks to extend vocabulary and check understanding.

Reading task - where you live and are from

(1)
A reading task I made for a Y9 bottom set beginners Spanish group who have been learning Spanish for about 10 weeks so far. The main aim is to recognise the difference between 'soy de' and 'vivo en' with place names, but there's plenty of added detail to make it a bit more challenging. I&'ve made the font size big so it can be copied 2:1, giving A5 sheets.

Revising 5 tenses for Y9 (topic - healty living)

(1)
2 lessons for the end of a healthy living topic with a middle set Y9 group, focusing on understanding of when to use the present, perfect, imperfect, near future and future tenses. Pupils have previously covered these tenses in all subjects, but I am focusing on the je form in these revision lessons to simplify things a bit and increase the chance that they can use the tenses in their upcoming written exam. If you're looking for something more highbrow for top set or for Y10 and 11, I have a series of lessons on conjugation in my resources.

(2)
Writing assessment for Y9 topic of Healthy Living. Style of paper is based on the new AQA specification. Primarily Foundation but includes a Higher style translation and opportunity for pupils to complete the main writing task at either Foundation (90 words) or Higher (150 words) level of detail.

Healthy eating - reasons/frequency of food groups

(1)
Card sort and grid for recording information. Pupils each have a grid, and have a set of cards in groups of 2-3. They match the reasons (bullet-pointed cards) and frequency with which the food should be eaten to the foods in the grid and record the information. Links in with knowledge of food groups/healthy living from science or food tech.

'Au revoir les enfants' reading - background

(2)
A reading task about the real figure behind the character of 'Pere Jean&' in the film &';Au revoir les enfants' (information taken from wikipedia). I have a mixed ability class, so gave some pupils the version with line numbers as clues to help them cope with the text which is fairly challenging for Y9. Pupils seemed really interested and shocked by the fact that it was a real-life story, so I hope it works well for you too.

Quantities &containers card sort - thinking skills

(1)
Card sort to introduce food quantities and containers. Pupils have to match starts and ends of phrases (eg: une bouteille... ...d'eau, une canette... ...de coca) based on what makes most sense. There is more than one right answer to some. Works best if you print each sheet on a different colour of card, then swap the top and bottom half of the grid around so you have 2 different colours in each envelope - quicker for pupils to see which are the starts and ends of phrases that way.

Saying how near/far places are

(2)
Straightforward resource for presenting and practising key vocabulary. -Recap of some places in town (crossword). -muy/bastante/cerca/lejos -kilometros/minutos -andando/en coche etc. Aimed at low ability KS3.

French reading activity - a work placement

(14)
Comprehension Qs then find various features, in an account of work placement. Produced for a high ability Year 10 group. Had just revised the perfect tense ready to write their own account of work placement the following week. I think I may have adapted the text from something found on here so if you recognise it as your own, many thanks. :)
Problem page letter - present and imperfect tense

Problem page letter - present and imperfect tense

(1)
Reading activity suitable for KS4 or high ability Y9. For my mixed ability Y9 class I added paragraph numbers and references for each question on some copies, which helped a bit, but was still too challenging really so I'd save it for top set if you have one! Pupils identify tenses (I did this first, then went through answers before moving on to comprehension) then answer questions about the text. Extension task to extend vocabulary for more able.
