This is an old PPT from TES, improved and updated for a Reading assessment on Film Studies with year 7. The PPT contains 2 lessons, the original one analysing the movie posters of ARGO and the second one analysing various action movie posters. I hope you can find it useful.

This is a unit of work for HAMLET that I'm currently running with my year 8 classes, both top sets and bottom sets. If you know the play really well, the pupils will enjoy the play very much. You have 131 slides with 12 lessons on a big Power point presentation, together with a 6 weeks homework booklet and the SOW. Plenty of tasks in each lesson. Videos are embedded and you only need to click on some words in the slides. Video versions used are Kenneth Branagh's Hamlet & RSC version with David Tennant, which are widely available for free on YouTube. Feedback is welcomed

AQA GCSE ENGLISH LANGUAGE Paper 1 Reading (from September 201 5 onwards - linear exam). This is a SOW & Power Point with all lessons done. Further resources for this paper are published on AQA’s website (Paper 1: Explorations in Creative Writing and Descriptive pdf file with lessons plans done, containing a few extracts for Story Openings, Transition points and endings, Presenting people, places and action, as well as a Complete Story). This was the first resource published after the exam qualification changes in 2015. It was as guidance about the exam and this PPT will be updated soon. However, for all the other resources mentioned, I do not hold the copyright, therefore a little research you might need to do. There are lessons plans provided by AQA with their booklets of extracts, but these have not been yet translated into PPTs…

This is a creative writing lesson for KS3 or KS4, on the topic of Snow, following the first snow falling of the year 2018 during a week of The Beast from The East blizzard. Pupils have to work with pictures, AQA GCSE style. You have a series of images to pick from, a worksheet, as well as guidance for how to add Passing of Time techniques, as well Story Opening techniques, if they are choose to do a story and not a description.

This is a lesson type assessment at the end of the study of the novel “The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde”, focused on writing an investigative article exposing the case, as a non-fiction writing task mirroring English Language Paper 2 (non-fiction) for AQA.

It contains 4-5 lessons of writing the essay following the Block Method (argumentative) with a minimum of 5 paragraphs (one PEEL paragraph per lesson). This is a PPT with 2 whole lessons about the first encounter with Lady Macbeth in Act 1, scene 5, while reading Macbeth's letter, wishing to make pupils anticipate possible courses of action from that point, but also choose one of them and develop her response. The action taken will be a reply letter, focusing on English Language skills (Purpose, Audience, Form and Tone).

This is a PPT of 69 slides on The DEATH OF A NATURALIST by Seamus Heaney with lessons on Context, Structure and Analysis. At the end of each lesson there is a homework piece, too. It would be great if you can teach this poem after BLACKBERRY PICKING by the same poet, as the Context lesson is built on that... (see my PPT on Blackberry Picking). A compare/contrast assessment can be done, for which I will put a new PPT online soon. This poem can be taught at both KS3 (year 8 - Nature Poetry/Growing Up) or KS4...

This is a PPT with 53 slides for the poem BLACKBERRY PICKING by Seamus Heaney, to include: Context, Structure and Analysis, each with homework tasks. You can link a follow up poem - Death of a Naturalist by the same poem - next (see my PPT for this other poem!) and then do a compare/contrast assessment on it. This PPT matches AQA new specification (2015 onwards) and can be used at both KS3 & KS4.

AQA GCSE - Poetry - Power and Conflict cluster. This is a 15 slides ppt tackling the Context of the poem Kamikaze by Beatrice Garland. 1 lesson worth. I will add the following lessons (power & conflict + analysis) later on.

JEKYLL & HYDE - Chapter 9 - Dr. Lanyon. This is a lesson building a strategy in steps for EAL & Cognition and Learning pupils, that can be used with bottom sets, as well. The strategy has 9 steps, but through practice this can be decreased to 6 and later to 4 (in the actual exam). Pupils are asked to build up a strategy of work and later will practice on different extracts from Chapter 9 of Jekyll and Hyde.

This is a lesson on Chapter 8 of Jekyll and Hyde, focusing on an exam style question about Mr. Utterson. An extract is included in the ppt & students can answer both parts of the exam question, if there is time.

This is a lesson on Chapter 6 from Jekyll and Hyde novel, containing essay style questions for which pupils have the chance to answer and peer-assess.

This PPT contains a Draft lesson, as well as the Assessment Lesson with an Argumentative essay based on the Block Method for a Newspapers module than can run with either year 8 or year 9. We are currently testing this assessment on year 8 at our school and I have to say that at least my classes have been successful in completing the argumentative essay. Attached are also two articles reporting on the same story (a tabloid and a broadsheet). Pupils need to be able to spot similarities, but also differences and write a 5 paragraphs essay with at least 3 analytical paragraphs. You can run the assessment over at least 2-3 lessons, although I am not surprised if you will have pupils finishing it in their first lesson. I hope you will find it useful.

This presentation includes 3 lessons with 30 slides in total, explaining differences between Utopia and Dystopia, with application to a short film, as well as rummaging various scenarios from films, creating their own scenarios and culminating with writing their own utopian/dystopian story.

This is a powerpoint lined up with AQA GCSE English Language Paper 1 (Writing) exam, containing various pictures advertising The Secret Life of Snails as stimulus for descriptive writing activities, but also practice of the 7 story opening techniques. A worksheet to help develop the descriptive skills and other tasks are included. This can run over 4 lessons and can even develop into a story.There is now a video included to help them observe the movements and obstacles encountered in their adventures... It can be used for KS3 all years, depending on their levels.
