Renewable and non renewable electricity generation
A complete set of resources to teach an interactive student led lesson on the topic of electricity generation.
Resources include:
A cut and stick activity showing the steps of generating electricity in a fossil fuel powered station
A sorting activity to allow students to recognise the difference between renewable and non-renewable energy resources
A group work, market place style activity for students to visit four different stations and gather information on different methods of generating electricity
(ideally students will be in groups of four and will take a method each to gather information and then return to the group to share)
a work sheet is included that asks students to gather information relating to how the power is generated, the advantages and the disadvantages.
Methods included are:
Coal power stations
Wind farms
Hydroelectric
Solar panels
An extension activity looking at sustainability and ethical issues posed by the generation of electricity in each of the stations visited.
Answers are included
Bundle
Solar System Activities
A set of four worksheets and activities that can be used to reinforce learning throughout the topic of space.
They are also ideal for use as revision activities.
Bundle includes
A wordsearch revising the main key words
A match up work sheet reinforcing definitions
A card sort of the main key words and their meanings
A worksheet to reinforce the sizes of the main components of the universe
A card sort reinforcing sizes of the main components of the universe.
Space size sorting
Two activities designed to reinforce the idea of the sizes of various objects in the universe.
A cut and stick card sorting activity. A hands on and visual way of sorting the various objects
A visual worksheet that allows students to place the objects in order from largest to smallest.
Space Key Word Sort
A highly visual, hands on and effective activity for learning the key words associated with the topic of space.
Answers have been jumbled so students can be given the sheet and asked to cut them out and rearrange.
Or teacher can prepare them before hand to save time and students can begin sorting immediately.
Key words covered:
Star
Solar System
Planet
Moon
Comet
Asteroid
Galaxy
Sun
Milky Way
Answer key is included
Space wordsearch
An excellent literacy resource which can be used as a settling activity in the topic of space or can be used to help revise** key words.**
Key words included:
Planet
Star
Shuttle
Universe
Galaxy
Hubble
Moon
Gravity
Apollo
Asteroid
Milky Way
Comet
Answers included.
Bundle
Space resources bundle
This bundle contains a complete set of resources for any teaching or revision of space and the solar system.
8 fact sheets depicting data on each of the planets in our solar system. Data includes gravity, temperature, length of day, density and composition.
Question sheet that asks students to **interpret the data on the fact sheet and make comparisons between Earth and the other planets. **
A key word match up exercise allowing students to recall the meanings of the main celestial bodies in the solar system.
A keyword word search
A card sorting activity allowing students to reinforce their knowledge of key word definitions
Two size sorting activities designed to assess students understanding of the relative sizes of the objects in the universe.
Solar system comprehension
This resource is ideal to be used to teach Junior Cycle Science
E an S 3: Students should be able to interpret data to compare the Earth with other planets and moons in the solar system, with respect to properties including mass, gravity, size, and composition.
A set of 8 fact literacy fact sheets on the planets in our solar system. These
are designed to be printed and displayed around a room/corridor/sports hall.
Students then visit the sheets in order to extract the data on each of the 8 planets.
Groupwork
Students could be split into groups with each group looking at a different data set. Alternatively each member of the group could be tasked with finding specific information.
The question sheet allows students to interpret the data on the fact sheets and use it to compare Earth with other planets in our solar system.
Comparisons looked at include density, diameter, day length, year length, composition and temperature.
All facts are taken from the NASA website and are listed as correct as of November 2021.
Celestial bodies definition match up
A match up exercise for students to practice the definitions and meanings of various structures in our solar system and beyond.
Key words included:
Star
Planet
Solar system
Moon
Comet
Asteroid
Galaxy
Sun
Milky Way
