Lesson introducing madness in the story ‘The Yellow Wallpaper’ by Charlotte Perkins Gilman

Consideration of how use of language conveys masculine power and gender inequality.

Pupils will be exposed to key terminology and various news reports linked to sensational news reporting that impact on an audience. They will be guided to consider Malcolm X’s comment about the Media’s power through the use of language. They will culminate with the creation of a visual resource for revision.

Pupils will be given a chance to consider their use of social media, some key terminology and create their own resource in keeping with not just AO3 but also AO5 requirements.

Lesson re-caps the introductory lesson, introduces ideas of Universal Grammar and the use of determiners. Lesson ends with an analytic task on use of language to create meaning.

This lesson goes back to basics in its exploration of verbs and their conjugation as well as the use of direct/indirect address.

This lesson allows pupils to consider the different versions of English used in different parts of the world. David Crystal’s comments will be considered in this session.

The lesson has support questions to aid pupils in understanding the requirements of each Assessment objective and the activities are a back to basic exploration of the steps in linguistics. There is also a taster task from OCR to get pupils clear on the expectations of the exam.

Pupils will consider linguistic levels, Stuart Hall’s Reception Theory, semiotics and how its all combined using language to inform and create an impact on an audience.

Use of Oliver Twist to retrieve key details that allow written analysis for lower ability pupils.

A look at feminism and other themes in the text and group task to allow pupils to investigate text more deeply.

Task to promote the planning then writing of a response regarding an A level question on the supernatural events and effects linked to Dorian Gray and Bloody Chamber stories.

Lesson focuses on becoming significantly familiar with the first story in the collection of Angel Carter’s The Bloody Chamber collection.

Exploration of the English language in use, depicting issues of gender as argued by theorists.

OCR A level English Language lesson on the basics of power through the use of language with an annotated example of the start of analysis of a text worth considering for evidence of power being demonstrated.

Development of discussion regarding the theme of madness.

This is a reflective Media lesson that introduces theorists while considering mass media communication during the pandemic. There are thought provoking activities for pupils to complete.

This lesson focuses on teaching year 9 pupils to take good photos. It is an interactive lesson and should be delivered over a double lesson (2 hours) so pupils work can be uploaded and shared and discussed, allowing time to re-do shots. Pupils may use phones but digital slr camera’s would be best.

This lesson is aimed at supporting the worksheets provided for helping pupils that may struggle to unpick this theme in the text.
