An Escape Room activity about the the Spanish conquistador who overthrew the Aztec Empire, Hernán Cortés. The activity has been split into four different tasks; your students will need to complete each of the tasks to reveal a word. Together the four words make a phrase for them to escape the room. Within the puzzle there are several hidden letters which will need to be unscrambled on the completion of the puzzle to reveal the second word. In Task 3 students will have to cut out 25 timeline task cards before putting them in order from the earliest date to the most recent. When they have finished their task they can glue them onto the answer key which will reveal their third word. In Task 4 students will have to find the missing words in a wordsearch puzzle before finding a hidden word from the letters that are left over in the puzzle. This hidden word is their fourth and final word. The Google Slides activity is ideal for distance learning and perfect for students in Year 3 or Year 4 learning about Ancient History. The first lesson involves students retrieving facts from informational texts about Julius Caesar, Augustus and Constantine, and typing these on to an included fact sheet. In the second lesson students need to use these facts to write three to four paragraphs about the individual leaders. In the third lesson students need to use prompt sheets to write up an introduction and a conclusion. In the final lesson students need to check their draft paragraphs for mistakes before typing up their work using the template provided. NO PREP is needed! This activity is an online resource, that uses Google Slides, and is linked to your Google Drive. It can be completed by students online using tablets or computers. However, the resource also comes in a PDF format, which can be printed. Please ensure when you download this resource into Google Drive that you are logged in to the Gmail account where you wish to store the activity.
