An outstanding fun lesson on Adding Subtracting and Multiplying fractions. A fun real life application of using operations with fractions to Shapes to work out area and perimeter of rectangular shapes. Using misconception as a “Starter” to address students’ knowledge on adding fractions. Using teaching at this point to address the misconception. Activity 1: Hit 12 activity where students will play the game in pairs to add fractions where it lands on the part of the column. First to reach to 12 or close to 12 wins. Main task worksheet for students to practise Adding, Subtracting and Multiplying fractions. Extension: Working out perimeter and area with fractional lengths. Answers provided. Using plenary to check for understanding, “Spot the mistakes”. Good assessment to check students’ understanding and checking if learning objectives are met.

Area of triangle and compound shapes Lesson plan. Problem solving Starter involving total perimeter and area of rectangle to find out the missing length and width. An illustration with animation showing how working out the area of rectangle helps in finding out the area of triangle. Meaningful task for students to practice working out the area of the triangle and Extension for students to find out the base when you are given the length and area. Next, working out the compound shapes area. It is detailed with questioning, prior learning and breakdown of students understanding, assessment opportunities and activities. A fun plenary where students fill in the missing blanks regarding area of triangle and compound shapes.
