Sociology
Sociological Perspectives on Crime & Deviance
This task requires students to identify which statement/description matches which Sociological Perspective (Functionalism/Marxism/Feminism/Interactionism/The New Right). The stretch requires them to consider an evaluation point for each statement.
Functionalism and the Family
A revision worksheet to consolidate Functionalism and the Family. The worksheet has an overview of some key ideas of Murdock and Parsons with follow up questions and tasks to complete. There are also key terms associated with the perspective listed as well as key criticisms.
GCSE Sociology - Families Knowledge Checker
A worksheet which allows you to quickly assess whole-class understanding. Statements 1-5 are true/false - you can embed a stretch by asking students to identify the misconception. Then the following 8 statements require students to identify the sociological perspective (e.g. Functionalism) which holds this view and a stretch of naming the specific sociologist (e.g. Parsons).
The final task allows students who complete quickly to write a paragraph explaining which perspective’s view of the family they agree with the most and why.
Poverty & The Welfare State
A resource to get students to consider the concepts of poverty and the welfare state. Students will consider how the welfare state addresses poverty and then create their own Prime Minister campaign to suggest social policies which they think could tackle poverty in the UK. The ballot papers can then be used so students can exercise their democratic right to vote at the end of the lesson.
