The Three Billy Goats Gruff is an incredible story to use when working with EYFS and KS1. This English/Literacy planning is intended for use with Year 1 but could easily be used or slightly adapted for use with EYFS children. The planning carefully guides the children through the teaching sequence for writing as they learn to listen and talk about the story, explore the characters, retell the story in thier own words with a focus on language development, eventually leading to them writing their own version of the story. Also included are some beautiful hand drawn images that can be used as prompts for discussion, sequencing and colouring in.

We’re Going on a Leaf Hunt by Steve Metzger is a wonderful story to use during the Autumn months as the seasons change. This carefully planned unit will begin by encouraging prediction, word recognition, rhyme and vocabulary development, leading at the end of the week to the children writing a page of the story using their own imaginative ideas. In addition to a weekly lesson plan with 5 detailed lesson outlines, you will be provided with a PowerPoint and resources. You will just need to select and add a few images to personalise this for your lesson and you are ready to go.
This is a detailed two week English unit based upon the wonderful Whatever Next by Jill Murphy. Starting with opportunities for speaking and listening, moving into character exploration and then into planning and writing their own version of the story. This unit is designed for Year 1 pupils but could also be used within the EYFS, preferably towards the latter half of Reception when the children’s writing skills are off the ground. Included are the additional resources that you will need. This planning is of course editable so that you can match it to the needs of your pupils. All of the resources that you will need are attached also. Enjoy. I look forward to hearing your feeback so please do leave a review.

Included are the additional resources that you will need. This planning is of course editable so that you can match it to the needs of your pupils and will work alongside whichever version of the story that you choose to use. Enjoy. I look forward to hearing your feedback so please do leave a review.

This is a planned intervention which is intended for children who are not making expected progress with phonics, reading or writing. 15 minutes daily should be enough to boost their learning, providing the support needed to close the gap.
