This is a complete lesson for CIE IGCSE English as a Second Language ESL Exercise 5. The lesson usually takes 1-2 periods to teach, including a model example, tips, writing time and peer assessment.

This lesson reviews the English names for common punctuation marks, how they are used and ends with students writing a short descriptive paragraph using these different punctuation marks.

This fun Christmas grammar quiz is ideal for English class, where it could be used as a whole lesson quiz or as a 10 minute starter every day. It would also work well in tutor time. Included is a 99 page Powerpoint that has questions covering a range of grammar points, with explanations of answers included. The rounds are as followed: Correct the spelling: correct the spelling of Christmas words Add the punctuation: add the missing punctuation to Christmas lyrics with the songs included in the background of each slide Splice or no splice: a series of Christmas related questions in which the students have to identify whether the sentence includes a comma splice or is grammatically accurate. Example and explanation of comma splicing included. Semi-colons & Santas: write a semi-colon sentence about a series of celebrities dressed in Santa hats. Explanation of semi-colon use included. This is a review lesson for language devices, which defines the language devices with examples, then moves onto identifying languagde devices in a text, before finally guiding students to use the language devices with a range of engaging picture stimuli. Originally planned for the CIE IGCSE English as a First Language scheme but would also work well for AQA English Language, as that has a picture stimulus based writing task. Also includes a language device Kahoot I made including videos, pictures and music, such as Justin Bieber. The file is a PowerPoint file.

Particularly this was made for Chinese students, but it can act as a guide for any other language (just use Google translate!). This booklet guides pupils through the skills needed to achieve highly for AO2 marks on the OCR English Literature GCSE (new spec). Pupils will look in detail at several key scenes and are guided through using accurate subject terminology, word level analysis and language analysis. The booklet contains around five lessons and concludes with a short exam.

These two lessons focus on introducing the skills needed for the OCR English Literature (new spec). Here I look at the poem 'Hawk Roosting'. I focus on identifying and analysing enjambment and semantic fields.
